What is precision grinding and what is it used for?

rettifica meccanica di precisione

Precision grinding is a process that removes excess material from a surface. The term says it all: to straighten, flatten and remove everything superfluous. Grinding therefore removes unnecessary material from a part, whatever its shape or size.

There are different types of grinding, depending on the machine used, the shape and type of the component and the direction given to the grinding wheel during machining.

Grinding with CNC machines

These different options give different types of grinding, including plunge grinding, which is the one most associated with CNC machines. Plunge grinding is very common, as are cylindrical and surface grinding.

In cylindrical and plunge grinding, the part rotates and the wheel can produce conical or cylindrical shapes. In surface grinding, surface finishes, grooves or profiles of various kinds can be obtained.

Grinding: precision in series

Grinding is called precision grinding because it requires maximum precision, especially in series production. In that case, it must be carried out on CNC machines designed for series mechanical operations.

A CNC machine allows the operation to be programmed on a dedicated computer, which sends the information to the machine and starts the process. CNC machines are efficient, fast and flawless, and allow work to be programmed for a large number of parts.
