Once the part program has been prepared, some sample checks must be carried out on the machining process of sliding-headstock CNC lathes.
Checking the stability of the component, especially when it is relatively large, becomes essential to eliminate any disturbance and vibration during turning. On sliding-headstock CNC lathes, the use of live turning and drilling tools, as well as any sub-spindle, can create disturbances on the component that affect the stability of the measured dimensions.
This can be made worse by the coolant jet, which must be controlled and calibrated to the minimum pressure needed to evacuate the chips. For dry machining – carried out on sliding-headstock CNC lathes without coolant – the cutting speed must be set according to the machinability of the material, making sure chips are expelled through the evacuation channels without building up on the component.
