What is a CNC milling cutter used for?

When a company needs to reproduce small mechanical parts in large quantities, it needs series machining. This is why CNC machining exists: numerically controlled machines managed by software in which the type and quantity required can be selected and machining started automatically. CNC machining is essential when mechanical parts are needed in large quantities at low cost and in short times.

CNC milling: producing small parts

One of the most widespread machines is the CNC milling machine, a machine tool used to machine complex or spherical shapes from metals and other materials. These are very high-precision machines that can work on very small parts and, when numerically controlled, produce very large quantities.

Work with a CNC milling machine usually has two stages: roughing, which removes excess material, and finishing, which removes the remaining unwanted material. As you might guess, CNC milling is the opposite of 3D printing: while a 3D printer works by addition (building material from scratch), milling works by subtraction (gradually reducing the existing material).

Why choose CNC machining

CNC machines allow fast production rates without ever losing sight of the quality of the finished product or the end customer’s needs. With CNC machining, the production cycle is fast, economical and precise, and above all applicable to many types of machining and materials.
