Precision engineering is a fundamental sector for the production of high-precision mechanical components and parts, used in many industries, including metalworking machinery and medical devices.
Part of a product’s manufacturing cycle is the treatment of metal surfaces. Machining, heat treatments and chemical treatments vary according to the nature of the surface to be treated.
Producing precision mechanical components requires various machining and surface treatment techniques, described below.
- Zinc plating is a surface coating technology that applies a layer of zinc to the surface of the part. It is commonly used to increase the corrosion resistance of metal components, making them suitable for use in aggressive environments. Zinc plating can be carried out by different methods, including hot-dip and cold galvanising.
- Carburising is a heat treatment in which the material is heated to a high temperature in the presence of carbon-rich gases or liquids. Carbon is added to the surface of the part, increasing its hardness and wear resistance.
- Carbonitriding is a heat treatment that combines carburising with the addition of nitrogen. It is used to improve the hardness and wear resistance of steel parts.
- Chrome plating is a surface coating technology that applies a layer of chromium to the surface of the part. It is commonly used to increase the corrosion resistance of metal components and improve their appearance.
- Anodising is a surface coating technology that creates an oxide layer on the surface of the part. It is used to increase the corrosion resistance of aluminium components and improve their appearance.
